What Is a Bike Fit (And Why You Probably Need One)?

A professional bike fit is more than adjusting your saddle height. It's a detailed, individualised process that aligns your bike to your body, riding style, and goals. Most cyclists rely on trial and error or copy a friend’s setup— leading to common issues like knee pain, back tightness, numb hands or feet, and saddle discomfort. With thousands of hours spent in the saddle, even small misalignments can add up to big problems. A proper fit helps reduce injury risk and makes every ride smoother, more powerful, and more enjoyable.

What to expect for your tailored bike fit

Step 1: Making an appointment

You can book your appointment online via our website, or call the clinic if you have questions prior. If you cannot find an appointment time that suits you, please call us or send us an email. You will receive a confirmation email with an intake form to fill in prior to your appointment.

Step 2: Your appointment

You will start by checking in to our virtual check-in, before we get started with your bike fitting appointment. We will then go through a detailed history where we will be asking questions about your relevant medical history, past injuries, and going through your cycling goals.

Step 3: Off-the-bike assessment

The examination will entail checking your posture and range of motion. We will perform cycling related such as leg lenght check, foot and shoe analysis, sit bone check etc. This will give us a clear picture of how well your body is working, which is essential to be able to perform a proper bike fit. Our Clinical bike fit includes treatment relevant to your injury and our assessment findings.

Step 4: The bike fitting process

Your bike will be set up on our indoor trainer. You will be pedaling at a low-moderate intensity, and you will be getting on and off the bike a few times. We will start by looking at your initial set up which will give us an indications on what we need to change to optimise your position. We will then make changes to your saddle position, including fore/aft, saddle height and saddle angle. We will optimise your cleat position, before moving onto the handlebars. Optimising your position to be comfortable, efficient, ergonomic and aerodynamic.

Step 5: Report and Measurements

At the end of the fitting process, we will record the measurements of your new bike set up, which we will send to you after the session. These are great to have as a reference if you want to make changes to your bikes. Our Pre-purchase bike fit will include a detailed report with all the fit data and recommendations for your new bike purchase.

Step 6: Follow up and feedback

A bike fit is a dynamic process which means that you might need small adjustments done after a few weeks/months of riding. We encourage you to reach out if you need to make any changes to your set up or if you have purchased new equipment. Our Clinical and Performance bike fits comes with a complimentary follow up.
